Jam---Ten Things To Use it For You Would Never Have Thought Of!

Ah........Jam.

Whether you are talking about the common grape jam that is lurking in everyone's cupboards, or the less common jams using herbs, it is easy for us to fall into the habit of thinking that jam is only good for one thing.

On toast.

But the reason I put up so many jars of jam a year is NOT because we eat a lot of toast around the Welcoming House.

Nope.

It is because I use jam in A LOT of things.
And today I am sharing them with you.

So hold onto your hats, grab a pencil and paper, and check out the top ten ways that us crazy folks around The Welcoming House use our jam recipes for cooking, baking, and a few other creative culinary ideas.

Ten Things To Use Jam For You Might Never Have Thought Of!

1. Jam Bars : this is listed at Number one because it is OUR FAVORITE

2. Swirled into Quick Breads

3. Over the top of Pork Chops

4. Crockpot Pork Loin with SO Berry Cherry Jam--cook in a crockpot on low for 6-8 hours after adding salt and rosemary, and greasing the crock. Think turkey and cranberry sauce. :)

5. This jam dolloped into stir fries for a slightly sweet but gingery taste

6. Thumbprint cookies using this jam

7. Jam Rollups--loaf of bread dough rolled out for cinnamon rolls. Instead, slather with coconut oil and jam of your choice. Roll up, seal the edges, and leave whole. Bake on a greased cookie sheet for 25 minutes at 350*, and remove, then slice for dessert. We top it with a little extra jam for fun.

8. Peanut Butter and Jelly Pizza--dont knock it before you try it--it is awesome!

9. Blended into smoothies--only a couple TBS add a rich sweet flavor to almond milk.

10. Add to pureed fruits and dehydrate for Fruit Smoothie Leathers

*11.Added to oil and vinegar for a fruity salad dressing. (VERY good)

12. Stacked pancakes using this jam---you just keep stacking them and slathering on jam until it makes a pancake/jam tower on each little plate. Think layer cakes.

Didja notice I went to 12?

Yep. That is because I am often looking for ways to slip a little sweet goodness into my meals or snacks, because I have three munchkins who adore jam. This picture is of Jam Rollups (sorry was taken with my phone)

Anyone got anything else they would like to share
that they use jam for?

Hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend!
Next week we are doing a health and healing week using herbs and common kitchen ingredients for common maladies we all struggle with! See you on Monday!

Many Blessings to you and yours,

  1. These are great, never thought of them! LOL. and another use for any flavor jam is to sweeten tea instead of sugar! and gives it a nice fruity flavor too! I have only one jam I use and love and it is Rose Preserves.
There are some beautiful organic teas like Orange Blossom tea and Rose Tea which of course, gets the Rose Preserves for sweetening. Thanks for this!

  2. Yes, I use one already made as I don't have the fragrant rose petals to make my own, from the Persian Market brand name "Tunas"....from Middle East I think? But lately a blogging friend is sending me one so precious I am almost afraid to use it LOL.....but in teas, they are beautiful!

  3. We love pie and a jam pie is delicious! Just sprinkle flour into your pie crust before you put in your jam and it will thicken it as it bakes.....topped with ice cream when warm...oh my!!!.....I also make a plain yellow/white two layer cake and then put jam in between the two layers and top it all with whip cream/cool whip......or one layer topped with jam and whip cream.

  4. These are some great ideas. I make my yogurt without any added sweetener and often stir in a small amount of homemade jam or jelly when I eat it. Some of these other ways I had not even thought of - thanks for sharing! (Visiting from the HomeAcre Hop)
